VM Backup – Backing up Virtual Machines with Windows Server 2008 R2 & Hyper-V

Virtual machines are basically made of files. They contain configuration files, virtual hard disks, snapshot files and saved state files. While running computers are virtual machines can benefit from virtualization, a lot of thought needs to be taken in order to protect the contents of the virtual machines and the VMs themselves, so that if something goes wrong, you can perform a pre-defined list of steps to successfully restore the VMs to a functional and running state We will cover the fundamentals of VM backup in a future article.... Hyper-V 3: A Windows Server 2003 Remix?

Remember the days of Windows NT Server? I was among the many who mocked it as a serious data center server operating system. Then came Windows 2000 Server, and perceptions began to change. With the release of Windows Server 2003, Microsoft turned the tide of server OS dominance in the data center, placing Microsoft on a path to where the majority of servers would run a Windows OS. What initially seemed like a pipe dream became reality, and I was among many who were wrong about Microsoft’s chances as a dominant server OS vendor. That... [Lire la suite]

Release: VMware Player 4.0/ACE 2.7.5

Last month VMware released version 8.0 of Workstation, and while normally in line with Workstation, no update of Player or ACE was released.
