Client Protocol Architecture In Exchange 2013 : WHERE IS MY HUB ?
Exchange 2013 has only two roles and the protocols handled by the roles are different to the ones in 2010.
In 2013, all types of clients connect to the CAS role. Rather than explaining all the types of access, the below slide from the recent TechEd session by Scott Schnoll shows the client protocol architecture in Exchange 2013.
Clearly, a picture is worth a thousand words
--> No more Hub, No more UC, things will be eased for deployments... please see the blog... [Lire la suite]

A number of Exchange guys are posting in various forums about this error message that appears very early in the Exchange 2013 setup process. The solution is really simple.
The issue is brought to light when you get the error message below during step one of the 2013 installation on Windows 2012.
Error: The following error was generated when “$error.Clear();

OS Requirements For Exchange 2013
With the release of Windows 2012 and the support for Exchange 2013, what are the operating system requirements for the new email platform?
Exchange 2013 supports both Windows 2012 and 2008 R2 SP1 as the base operating system. The good thing is that you only need Windows 2012 Standard for any deployment of Exchange 2013 – be it the CAS, Mailbox or Mailbox server as part of a DAG. The standard edition of Windows 2012 includes the failover clustering feature which DAG requires. As I have written before, there is no enterprise... [Lire la suite]

No More Setup.Com In Exchange 2013
Exchange admins who have installed Exchange 2010 using the command line will be familiar with the Setup.Com, which was part of the 2010 ISO/DVD. It doesn’t exist in Exchange 2013!
In Exchange 2010, we used setup.exe to install the product using the GUI and Setup.Com to install it from a command line.
So, how are we supposed to run the setup from command line in 2013? I can hear you asking . Well, the answer is really simple. In Exchange 2013, the setup.exe is used for both purposes – installing from the command line and... [Lire la suite]

Cool Tool update: RVTools 3.4
It has been a while since I blogged about RVTools, but I just received an email from Rob saying that there is an update out so I figured it was about time. RVTools is in my opinion THE best free and independent tool out there for a vSphere enviroment. This is a must-have tool for every virtualization admin / consultant!
I have used it many times in the past, and I can tell you that it helped me digging up some nasty inconsistencies in environments and misconfigured VMs etc. I am surprised that none of the monitoring/reporting vendors... [Lire la suite]

Microsoft Volume Activation Management Toolkit v3 (VAMT 3): Improvements and Installation
Microsoft’s free Volume Activation Management Toolkit (VAMT) helps administrators manage licensing on computers in their organization. Administrators can use the VAMT to update licenses and activate Office and Operating Systems on clients and servers.
VAMT version 3 performs all of the operations that VAMT version 2 did while adding new features. Christian Mohn wrote about VAMT 2 and described its usage in his article, "License & Activation Management with Volume Activation Management Tool (VAMT)." If you haven’t used the VAMT... [Lire la suite]

Top 10 Windows Server 2012 Features
Windows Server 2012 has been officially available since September 9th, 2012, and many IT professionals and system administrators are evaluating the software for deployment. While the jury may still be out on Windows 8 in the enterprise, Windows Server 2012 ships with dozens – if not hundreds -- of new features that admins should find useful. Microsoft has a free trial of Windows Server 2012 available for download, so I'd encourage every Windows Server admin to give it a spin.
To narrow that list down a bit I’ve taken the liberty of... [Lire la suite]
