Client Protocol Architecture In Exchange 2013 : WHERE IS MY HUB ?

Exchange 2013 has only two roles and the protocols handled by the roles are different to the ones in 2010.   In 2013, all types of clients connect to the CAS role. Rather than explaining all the types of access, the below slide from the recent TechEd session by Scott Schnoll shows the client protocol architecture in Exchange 2013. Clearly, a picture is worth a thousand words --> No more Hub, No more UC, things will be eased for deployments... please see the blog... [Lire la suite]

“The System Cannot Find The File Specified” – Error On Step 1 Of Exchange 2013 Setup

A number of Exchange guys are posting in various forums about this error message that appears very early in the Exchange 2013 setup process. The solution is really simple.   The issue is brought to light when you get the error message below during step one of the 2013 installation on Windows 2012. Error: The following error was generated when “$error.Clear(); install-ExchangeSchema -LdapFileName ($roleInstallPath + “Setup\Data\”+$RoleSchemaPrefix + “schema0.ldf”) ” was run: “The system cannot find the file specified”. The... [Lire la suite]

OS Requirements For Exchange 2013

With the release of Windows 2012 and the support for Exchange 2013, what are the operating system requirements for the new email platform?   Exchange 2013 supports both Windows 2012 and 2008 R2 SP1 as the base operating system. The good thing is that you only need Windows 2012 Standard for any deployment of Exchange 2013 – be it the CAS, Mailbox or Mailbox server as part of a DAG. The standard edition of Windows 2012 includes the failover clustering feature which DAG requires. As I have written before, there is no enterprise... [Lire la suite]

No More Setup.Com In Exchange 2013

Exchange admins who have installed Exchange 2010 using the command line will be familiar with the Setup.Com, which was part of the 2010 ISO/DVD. It doesn’t exist in Exchange 2013!   In Exchange 2010, we used setup.exe to install the product using the GUI and Setup.Com to install it from a command line. So, how are we supposed to run the setup from command line in 2013? I can hear you asking . Well, the answer is really simple. In Exchange 2013, the setup.exe is used for both purposes – installing from the command line and... [Lire la suite]

Office 365 – Password Expiration Notifications in Outlook

The Microsoft Outlook team has released updates for Outlook 2010 and 2007 that provide Office 365 users with password expiration notifications. The advance password expiry notification will be displayed in a pop-up message (near the system clock) within a certain time period before their password actually expires. That time period is configurable by the tenant admin (see links below for more info). For users whose passwords have already expired, Outlook will flash an error message when users try to connect to their mailbox. In both... [Lire la suite]

MS Exchange Recovery Possibilities

Some thoughts about MS Exchange recovery possibilities. I’ve done quite a few Exchange Server installations in my carreer. Both physical and virtual. The installation and migration processes are quite ok, but when it comes to possible recovery (recovery of DB, recovery of e-mail accounts or recovery individual emails) there are many solutions. I’ll try to outline some of them. There are software solutions to get the DB recovered fast, but sometimes the recovery for exchange server needs to be done by experts working deeper than the... Mailbox Move In Exchange 2013

The mailbox move process has been fine tuned in Exchange 2013 with the concept of “Batch Move”.   Similar to Exchange 2010, a single or multiple mailboxes can be moved using EAC. Mailbox move can be initiated from the move mailbox option next to a mailbox or by using the “Migration” tab in the “Recipients” node.  --> Please see the rest on the blog : http://www.howexchangeworks.com/2012/09/mailbox-move-in-exchange-2013.html

Site Mailboxes in the new Office

Site mailboxes allow users to work together naturally – while compliance is applied behind the scenes. A site mailbox brings Exchange emails and SharePoint documents together. For users, a site mailbox serves as a central filing cabinet, providing a place to file project emails and documents that can be only accessed and edited by site members. When one project member files mail or documents using the site mailbox, any project member can then access the content. Site mailboxes are surfaced in Outlook 2013 and give users easy access...
