Exchange Server 2013 Gotchas

Thank you Damien for pointing me to this article explaining why you should thin twice before deploying Exchange 2013.... Exchange Server 2013 reached RTM a couple of months ago and has since reached General Availability (GA). In my personal opinion, Exchange 2013 RTM is not ready for prime time. Microsoft made a decision to release all of Wave 15 (Office desktop applications and servers) at the same time; as well as release Windows 8, Windows RT, and Windows Server 2012 at the same time. I think this decision was seriously flawed.... [Lire la suite]

Exchange 2013 Client Access Server Role

In a previous article, I discussed the new server role architecture in Exchange 2013. This article continues the series by discussing the Client Access server role. While this Exchange server role shares the same name as a server role that existed in the last two Exchange Server releases, it is markedly different. In Exchange 2007, the Client Access server role provided authentication, proxy/redirection logic, and performed data rendering for the Internet protocol clients (Outlook Web App, EAS, EWS, IMAP and POP). In Exchange 2010,... [Lire la suite]

Exchange 2013 Server Role Architecture

The Past: Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2010 In 2005, we set out developing Exchange 2007. During the preliminary planning of Exchange 2007, we realized that the server architecture model had to evolve to deal with hardware constraints, like CPU, that existed at the time and would exist for a good portion of the lifecycle of the product. The architectural change resulted in five server roles, three of which were core to the product: Edge Transport for routing and anti-malware from the edge of the organization Hub Transport for... Complete guide on configuring KEMP VLM load balancer for Exchange 2013

Introduction Since Exchange Server 2013 reached RTM the 11th of October, and finally it was published to MSDN the 24th of October. This post is based on the RTM version of Exchange 2013. I decided to write a post that included both the KEMP configuration together with the Exchange 2013 configuration. I’ve also seen that Jaap Wesselius have posted an article regarding this topic already, it’s my hope that I can fill the gap regarding the complete configuration of both Exchange and the load balancer. For illustrating my lab... [Lire la suite]
