Release: VMware Player 4.0/ACE 2.7.5

Last month VMware released version 8.0 of Workstation, and while normally in line with Workstation, no update of Player or ACE was released. Now VMware has released version 4.0 of its virtualization platform Player and version 2.7.5 of its platform wrapper product ACE. VMware player now only installs on workstations which have a 64-bit x86 CPU, and have LAHF/SAHF support in long mode, and if you want to install guests with a 64 bit os, you need either an AMD CPU with segment-limit support in long mode, or an...

Extrait de la KB 1022830Connections to virtual desktops using PCoIP fail You are no longer able... [Lire la suite]

Cool new HA feature coming up to prevent a split brain situation!

I already knew this was coming up but wasn’t allowed to talk about it. As it is out in the open on the VMTN community I guess I can talk about it as well. One of the most common issues experienced with VMware HA is a split brain situation. Although currently undocumented, vSphere has a detection mechanism for these situations. Even more important the upcoming release ESX 4.0 Update 2 will also automatically prevent it! First let me explain what a split brain scenario is, lets start with describing the situation which is most... [Lire la suite]

VMware vSphere Health Check Report v4.0.0 by @lamw

William Lam just released version 4 of his Health Check Report. I guess I can talk about it for hours but the sample report that William provides says more in just a few clicks than I can in 1000 words. Below you can find an outtake from the release notes. I clipped it as it was too long, but you can find the complete info here. Make sure this script is part of your standard toolkit as it will most definitely come in handy! Highly recommended. This script generates a health check report similar to that of vmwareHealthCheckScript but... [Lire la suite]

Dell ESXi Management

Unlike the traditional ESX software, the ESXi software does not have a service console. It helps reduce the installation footprint of the software and can allow the hypervisor to be directly installed on the system’s internal flash storage or a USB key. At the moment I am investigating moving to ESXi from ESX, after resolving the DSET issue I was then faced with the management of the ESXi hosts, currently the full fat ESX hosts have the Dell open management agent installed on them and SNMP configured, this allows the Dell...
