Upgrading vCenter Server Appliance 5.0.x/5.1 to 5.5 (2058441)

Purpose This article provides steps to upgrade vCenter Server Appliance from 5.0.x/5.1 to 5.5. Resolution Notes: vCenter Server Appliance 5.0.1, 5.1.x, and 5.5 use PostgreSQL for the embedded database, instead of IBM DB2 that was used in vCenter Server Appliance 5.0. If you use the embedded database with the vCenter Server Appliance, when you upgrade to version 5.5, the embedded IBM DB2 database is migrated to a PostgreSQL database. The configuration state of your existing database is preserved and the schema is upgraded to be... [Lire la suite]

Windows Server 2012 on vSphere 5.0 – The Case of the Missing D:\ Drive

I sincerely hope this saves somebody else some time because I had a fair amount of head scratching with this today. Installed a Windows Server 2012 VM on vSphere 5.0 U2, pretty standard install with a C:\ drive for OS, Software etc and D:\ for data. This particular server needed to run SQL Server 2012, however the install kept repeatedly failing with the error “Could not find the Database Engine startup handle”. Initially I suspected that it might be a problem with a corrupt ISO as there are numerous postings around that and some,... [Lire la suite]

Guacamole – HTML5 Clientless Remote Desktop

Guacamole is an HTML 5 web application which enables you to access remote desktop via browser. It’s a HTML5 Clientless Remote Desktop web application. There are no plugins or software needed on the client side and that’s the principal advantage over traditional remote access solution. Guacamole uses HTTP or HTTPS protocols only, so it’s ideal when wanting to access from the outside world protected by corporate firewall. No other ports are necessary. Guacamole supports the main versions of Linux. Distributions like... [Lire la suite]

Isolation detection in vSphere 5.1 versus 5.0

I received a question today from someone who wanted to know the difference for isolation detection between vSphere 5.0 and 5.1. I described this in our book, but I figured I would share it here as well. Note that this is an outtake from the book. The isolation detection mechanism has changed substantially since previous versions of vSphere. The main difference is the fact that HA triggers a master election process before it will declare a host is isolated. In this timeline, “s” refers to seconds. The following timeline is the... If BB10 upgrades are a nightmare, why not jump to iPhone now?

RIM is getting ready to help business upgrade to BB10 and BES 10, but if you need help to do it, why not just do something else instead? We now know that next January, to coincide with the launch of BlackBerry 10, RIM are making available a whole bunch of resources to help enterprises make the transition from the old RIM devices (your BlackBerry 7 Curves, Bolds, and the like) over to the new shininess that is BlackBerry 10. Those resources and attended incentives are packaged up in something called the "BlackBerry 10 Ready... [Lire la suite]
