Hyper-V Dynamic Memory test for VDI density

Hi, I’m Michael Kleef, senior technical product manager within the Windows Server and Cloud division. As Brad Anderson and I discussed at the TechEd Europe keynote today, Dynamic Memory, a new feature in Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, can increase Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) densities by 40% compared to Hyper-V in Windows Server 2008 R2 and also well above a leading industry solution. It’s also not just a benefit to VDI. Our Technology Adoption Program (TAP) customer data also highlights that other server workloads benefit... [Lire la suite]

Updates to Dynamic Memory UI in SP1 RC

In the release candidate build of service pack 1 for Windows Server 2008 R2 we have updated some parts of the Dynamic Memory user interface. There were some top-level goals that we had with the Dynamic Memory user interface in the Hyper-V Manager (our MMC interface).  Specifically we wanted users to be able to: Quickly see if their Hyper-V server was “in a good state” Quickly identify if specific virtual machines did not have enough memory Know how much memory was being used by each virtual machine Know how far... RPC Encryption Disabled By Default In Exchange 2010 SP1…

One of the big issues that admins had while migrating to Exchange 2010 was the RPC Encryption requirement on CAS servers and Outlook 2003 clients. Outlook 2003 users had to have their RPC encryption turned on for them to get connected to a 2010 mailbox. Check my previous article for more info. Few admins sorted the issue by turning the encryption off on the server while few others turned on encryption on Outlook 2003 clients manually or by using group policy. Exchange Product Group have disabled the RPC encryption on CAS servers in... [Lire la suite]

Publishing POP, IMAP & SMTP Settings In Exchange 2010 SP1 OWA…

Exchange Team has provided an option to configure POP, IMAP and SMTP settings and publish it in 2010 SP1 OWA, as an information for users. Helpdesk can always direct users to look at the information in OWA & setup their POP or IMAP client, if your organization is still using it. By default (new in SP1), you have a new link called “Settings for POP,IMAP & SMTP Access” in the “Options” page (ECP to be precise). If you click the link, there won’t be any information published by default. Let’s say that your... [Lire la suite]

Rollup Installation Made Easier With DAG Maintenance Scripts In Exchange 2010 SP1…

Installing update rollups on DAG members was never a straight forward task like clicking Next, Next. We had to make sure that all the active databases have been moved to a different DAG member, activation of all databases on the server to be patched is blocked, mailbox database copy is suspended etc. If we had Forefront running, it had to be disabled as well. To make patching DAG members easier, Microsoft has two new scripts in the “Scripts” folder of Exchange 2010 SP1. StartDAGServerMaintenance.ps1 and... [Lire la suite]
