Watch out with Hardware Version 10 in VMware ESXi 5.5!

With VMware ESXi 5.5 and vSphere Hypervisor 5.5  it is possible to upgrade the Virtual Machine to hardware version 10. The vSphere Client cannot  edit settings of VMs that have hardware version 10. When you try to edit a hardware version 10 in the vSphere 5.5 client the following warning appear: You cannot use  the vSphere Client to edit the settings of virtual machines of version 10 or higher…….   To edit settings of a version 10 VM  you need the VMware vSphere Web Client! vSphere Hypervisor 5.5 does... How is Horizon View configured for VMware VSAN?

In my previous article I discussed VSAN benefits for Horizon View (How does VMware VSAN help Horizon View?), including CAPEX and OPEX savings provided by the use of inexpensive server disks for shared storage and simplified day-to-day storage configuration and provisioning activities. In this article I will explore some of the VSAN capabilities and features and how they relate to Horizon View. --> Please see the rest on the blog : http://myvirtualcloud.net/?p=5440

Frequently asked questions about Virtual SAN / VSAN

After I published the vSphere Flash Read Cache FAQ many asked if I would also do a blog post for frequently asked questions about Virtual SAN / VSAN. I guess it makes sense considering Virtual SAN / VSAN being such a hot topic. So here are the questions I have received so far, followed by the answers of course. If you have a question do not hesitate to leave a comment. Make sure to visit the VSAN community forum and sign up for the beta! VSAN requires an SSD, what is it used for? The SSD is used for read caching (70%) and write...

Using ImageBuilder to make custom ESXi ISO

On a previous post, I’ve write on how build custom ESXi ISO with 3rd part tools. Those tools are not mentioned by VMware so probably are not supported. But you need a custom ISO in order to install ESXi on a host where the network drivers are missing (storage could be not an issue if you install it on a USB/Flash card). The other solutions are use a vendor related custom ISO or the embedded version that probably already include the right drivers. But in order to build your custom ISO you could use the same... Building a driver library in VMware Horizon Mirage

Here’s a guest post by Robert Tindall who explains the process one would go through to build a driver Library in Horizon Mirage. This is commonly done when working with Horizon Mirage Base Layers, Restores, and Reverting to snapshots. the following guides you through the process of extracting drivers from the manufacture and gives examples of how you can logically structure your device drivers folders for that manufacture, Model, OS Type etc. To add a driver to your driver library, we suggest you download the driver from...
