ALERT: Login issue after updating to vCenter 5.1 Update 1

VMware has become aware of an issue that may occur after upgrading to vCenter Server 5.1 Update 1.   Specifically: You are unable to log in using the vSphere Web Client or domain username/password credentials via the vSphere Client. This issue can occur if the specified vCenter Server login domain user account is associated with a large number of domain groups and multiple domains are configured as SSO identity sources. The precise number of groups at which this issue can occur varies due to the nature of Active...

RE: Is VSA the future of Software Defined Storage? (OpenIO)

I was reading this article on the HP blog about the future of Software Defined Storage and how the VSA fits perfectly. Although I agree that a VSA (virtual storage appliance) could potentially be a Software Defined Storage solution I do not really agree with IDC quote used for the basis of this article and on top of that I think some crucial factors are left out. Lets start with the IDC quote: IDC defines software-based storage as any storage software stack that can be installed on any commodity resources (x86 hardware,... [Lire la suite]

ESXi Free vs Paid – What are the differences?

Fairly often new people discovering VMware asking this questions: Esxi free vs paid? vSphere 5.1 update 1 release fixes Storage vMotion rename “bug”

vSphere 5.1 update 1 is released today which contains several updates and bug fixes for both ESXi and vCenter Server 5.1. This release contains the return of the much requested functionality of renaming VM files by using Storage vMotion. Renaming a virtual machine within vCenter did not automatically rename the files, but in previous versions Storage vMotion renamed the files and folder to match the virtual machine name. A nice trick to keep the file structure aligned with the vCenter inventory. However engineers considered it a bug... [Lire la suite]
