VMware announces public beta of vCenter Multi-Hypervisor Manager version 1.1

In November last year, VMware released version 1.0 of its vCenter Multi-Hypervisor Manager, an optional module which is capable of managing the Microsoft Hyper-V hypervisor from vCenter. Now VMware has announced a public beta for a new version 1.1 of the Multi-Hypervisor Manager, which will support Microsofts latest hypervisor as part of Windows Server 2012, Hyper-V 3.0. The Rise of the Multi-Device Workspace

The IT world never stands still. External forces are always conspiring to ensure that change is the only constant for IT organizations. It seems like just yesterday that IT spent most of its time focusing on only managing – employees. IT supported desktops that were owned by the company and were running company owned software. Those desktops traversed company-owned networks to company-developed applications, running on a company-owned server in a datacenter owned and operated at the company. It was in this more centralized world... [Lire la suite]

Release: VMware vCenter Multi-Hypervisor Manager 1.0

VMware has released version 1.0 of its vCenter Multi-Hypervisor Manager, an optional module which is capable of managing the Microsoft Hyper-V hypervisor from vCenter. While vCenter markets the product as a Multi-Hypervisor product this version clearly targets Microsoft because it only supports the Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 and Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 hypervisors at this time. It’s not clear if VMware is planning to support Windows Server 2012 which contains Hyper-V 3.0 or the Xen Hypervisor any time soon. Microsoft also... [Lire la suite]

Activate multi-NIC vMotion in ESXi 5

n vSphere 5 we have support for using multiple Vmkernel ports enabled for vMotion. Having more than one physical network card for vMotion allows us to utilize them simultaneous, even when only transferring a single virtual machine. If having spare NICs we could use up to 16 Gigabit cards and four 10 Gbit NICs just for vMotion. Having 16 extra network ports might not be too common, but the performance increase can be great when just adding another vmnic for the vMotion traffic. --> Please see the rest on the blog...

Using the multiple NICs of your File Server running Windows Server 2008 (and 2008 R2)

1 - Overview When you set up a File Server, there are advantages to configuring multiple Network Interface Cards (NICs). However, there are many options to consider depending on how your network and services are laid out. Since networking (along with storage) is one of the most common bottlenecks in a file server deployment, this is a topic worth investigating. Throughout this blog post, we will look into different configurations for Windows Server 2008 (and 2008 R2) where a file server uses multiple NICs. Next, we’ll...
