Dynamic Memory Pro Tip – be reasonable with your startup ram

Hyper-V now allows you to configure a startup, minimum and maximum memory limit.  If you are like me – you probably leave the startup ram at the default of 512mb – but you should really consider changing it to better suit your environment.  Here is a quick screenshot from one of my Hyper-V servers: Two things that I have discovered: Some of my virtual machines benefit from having a startup and minimum that is below 512mb.  My FTP server, for instance, is a core installation of Windows server which just acts as an... Use System Configuration Tool to Solve Problems

Any IT Pro can tell you that solving problems is as much as art as it is a science. I don’t think you can ever have enough tools in your admin toolkit. Here’s one that ships with Windows that you may not know about but one which I think can be very useful. This tool has been around for awhile on both client and server platforms. The script below will...

Troubleshooting Exchange 2010 Management Tools startup issues

In this blog post, we will be highlighting some of the most common errors that may be seen when attempting to open the Exchange Management tools (Exchange Management Console and Exchange Management Shell). To start off, you first need to be aware that in Exchange 2010, all management is done via Remote PowerShell, even when opening the Management Tools on an Exchange server. Where this differs from Exchange 2007 is that there is now a much larger dependency on IIS, as Remote PowerShell requests are sent via the HTTP protocol and... [Lire la suite]
