Active Directory replication fails with error Target Principal name incorrect

I recently had a problem with a client's Active Directory   2 Active Directory sites were unable to connect during a few days, and in the meantime the domain controllers changed their computer's account password (see Murphy's Law)  When the network came back, the Active Directory replication tools gave the following error :   DCDIAG reports that the Active Directory Replications test has failed with error -2146893022: “The target principal name is incorrect." This oriented me towards this microsoft... [Lire la suite]

Active Directory : replication error target principal name incorrect

How to create shared iSCSI storage for ESXi using StarWind’s iSCSI SAN Software

How to create shared iSCSI storage for ESXi using StarWind’s iSCSI SAN Software In my previous post, I mentioned that I use StarWind Software’s iSCSI SAN software to provide iSCSI LUNs for my home lab.  In this post, I’ll document the process to create a simple shared iSCSI LUN setup.  Using that, one can provide as many LUNs as required to an ESXi setup, possibly with multipathing – very useful if one doesn’t have expensive network storage and virtual appliances don’t seen flexible enough.  I should apologise in...

How to Build a Hyper-V Cluster Using the Microsoft iSCSI Software Target v3.3

Just over a week ago – we released the Microsoft iSCSI Software Target for free (details here: http://blogs.technet.com/b/josebda/archive/2011/04/04/microsoft-iscsi-software-target-3-3-for-windows-server-2008-r2-available-for-public-download.aspx). When I found out about this, I thought: “Cool! I should try that out, setup a cluster and blog all about it!”. So I created three virtual machines and then spent the weekend playing Civilization V and working on a pine-wood derby car with my son… That did not turn out the way I planned (I... [Lire la suite]

Microsoft iSCSI Software Target v 3.3 en téléchargement gratuit sur microsoft.com

One common refrain we hear from you is that you appreciate the fact we’re driving down the costs of virtualization and adding more and more capabilities in the box such as Live Migration (LM) and High Availability (HA). We’re happy to do it and we’re just getting started. :) To use both LM and HA, these require shared storage. This shared storage can be in the forms of SAS, iSCSI or Fiber Channel SAN. For many environments this isn't an issue, but there are some specific scenarios where customers need LM and HA and the cost of a... [Lire la suite]

Six Uses for the Microsoft iSCSI Software Target

Scott M. Johnson, a Program Manager in the Windows Storage Server team, has just published a new blog post that might give you some ideas on different ways to use the Microsoft iSCSI Software Target. He outlines six different uses for it: 1) Consolidate storage for multiple application servers.2) Test and Development scenarios are endless, especially for Clustering, Live Migration, SAN transfer and Storage Manager for SANs.3) Setup an iSCSI SAN for a Windows cluster. 4) Consolidate servers into Hyper-V VMs and migrate the data to a... Use your Windows server as a shared Storage for your ESX Server

Ok, I already posted a guide about how to configure Openfiler Linux for free as a shared storage for your Virtual Infrastructure. If you’re not into linux, you can just try Starwind for free too…. (up to 2 TB of Data !!). Here is a PDF guide (it’s for ESX 3.5 but the princip is the same for ESXi 4. You must create a virtual disk storage which will became a iSCSI Target. Thist target will then be presented to your ESX server as a shared storage. You’ll be able to setup Starwind iSCSI SAN in only about 10 minuts. In the Free... [Lire la suite]

Windows Storage Server 2008 and the Microsoft iSCSI Software Target 3.2

I am glad to share that Windows Storage Server 2008 (WSS 2008) and the Microsoft iSCSI Software Target 3.2 have been released to the Microsoft OEM partners. This is the successor to Windows Storage Server 2003 (WSS 2003) and Windows Unified Data Storage Server 2003 (WUDSS 2003). I have been working closely with some of the OEM partners for the last few quarters and they will be announcing their Windows Storage Server 2008 appliances over the next several weeks. In this release, a number of important improvements were introduced... [Lire la suite]

Step-by-step: Using the Microsoft iSCSI Software Target with Hyper-V (Standalone, Full, VHD)

OverviewIn this post, I will show all the steps required to run Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V with the Microsoft iSCSI Software Target. We will cover the specific scenario of a standalone Windows Server 2008 server (as opposed to a clustered one) on a full install (as opposed to a core install) and using a VHD file (as opposed a pass-through disk). In order to follow these instructions you will need at least two computers. One computer will run a full install of Windows Server 2008 with the Hyper-V role enabled. The other computer...
