Cool Tool: VisualEsxtop

My ESXTOP page is still one of the most visited pages I have, it actually comes in on a second spot just right after the HA Deepdive. Every once in a while I revise the page and this week it was time to add VisualEsxtop to the list of tools people should use. I figured I would write a regular blog post first and roll it up in to the page at the same time. So what is VisualEsxtop? VisualEsxtop is an enhanced version of resxtop and esxtop. VisualEsxtop can connect to VMware vCenter Server or ESX hosts, and display ESX server stats... [Lire la suite]

Hyper-V Replica Certificate Based Authentication - makecert

We have had a number of queries on how to enable replication using certificates created from makecert. Though the Understanding and Troubleshooting guide for Hyper-V Replica discusses this aspect, I am posting a separate article on this. The below steps are applicable for a simple lab deployment consisting of two standalone servers – PrimaryServer.domain.com and ReplicaServer.domain.com. This can be easily extended to clustered deployments with the Hyper-V Replica Broker. Makecert is a certificate creation tool which generates... [Lire la suite]

Windows 7 Explorer for Windows 8

Windows 7 Explorer for Windows 8 is an excellent free tool which enables you to switch the Windows 8 start menu back to the Windows 7 one very clean way. Few months back you could read about classic menu for Widnows 8, which is a freeware tool too, but it adds it’s own menu at the top of Windows 8. Even if it adds more functions, it’s less clean that the solution I’m writing about today. --> Please see the rest on Vladan's blog : http://www.vladan.fr/windows-7-explorer-for-windows-8/

Active Directory Replication Status Tool

After a decade, we have a GUI tool to troubleshoot AD replication problems. It is called Active Directory Replication Status Tool.   Gone are the days where we used repadmin and all it’s different syntax to troubleshoot replication issues in AD. The Active Directory Replication Status Tool (ADREPLSTATUS) analyzes the replication status for domain controllers in an Active Directory domain or forest. ADREPLSTATUS displays data in a format that is similar to REPADMIN /SHOWREPL * /CSV imported into Excel but with significant... [Lire la suite]
