What’s New in VMware Horizon View 5.3 (Beyond Marketing)

It’s that time again! VMware just announced VMware Horizon View 5.3 and has also lifted the NDA. Despite being only a ‘dot’ release the Horizon View team added a significant number of features that provide improvements in the areas of performance, user experience and management. Following the format of my previous articles “What’s New (Beyond Marketing)” I am going to also introduce new features that don’t necessarily make to the marketing press releases but also represent major product improvements. I also would like to highlight... [Lire la suite]

How is Horizon View configured for VMware VSAN?

In my previous article I discussed VSAN benefits for Horizon View (How does VMware VSAN help Horizon View?), including CAPEX and OPEX savings provided by the use of inexpensive server disks for shared storage and simplified day-to-day storage configuration and provisioning activities. In this article I will explore some of the VSAN capabilities and features and how they relate to Horizon View. --> Please see the rest on the blog : http://myvirtualcloud.net/?p=5440

VMware Horizon View 5.2 Feature Pack 2 released

VMware Horizon View 5.2 Feature Pack 2 includes the following new features: Flash URL Redirection - Customers can now use Adobe Media Server and multicast to deliver live video events in a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environment. To deliver multicast live video streams within a VDI environment, the media stream should be sent directly from the media source to the endpoints, bypassing the virtual desktops. The Flash URL Redirection feature supports this capability by intercepting and redirecting the ShockWave Flash... [Lire la suite]

Updating SSL certificates on View Connection servers

While playing with SSL certs on View servers I found one of my Connection servers would start all of its services, but not start listening on 443. Note that netstat can be used to determine if something listening on 443: C:\Users\administrator>netstat -ano |find "443" TCP 0.0.0.0:443 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING 3096 TCP 0.0.0.0:8443 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING 3320 TCP [::]:443 [::]:0 LISTENING 3096 TCP [::1]:443 [::1]:56154 ESTABLISHED 3096 TCP [::1]:443 [::1]:56155 ESTABLISHED 3096 TCP [::1]:56154 [::1]:443 ESTABLISHED... Create a signed certificate for VMware View Connection Servers using a Windows Server 2012 CA

For VMware Horizon View it is recommends that you configure your VMware View Horizon Servers with a signed SSL certificate. Default when you install a VMware View Horizon servers, a certificate is generated that is not signed by a CA. Because it is not signed by a CA It is possible to to intercept traffic. So it is highly recommend to replace the default certificate with a signed certificate after the installation. Symantec Endpoint Protection Integration with VMware Horizon View – Part1

In one of my recent VDI projects I was working with Symantec Endpoint Protection as the choice of AV solution. When I started working on the project I was not able to find much information on the exact steps required for me to design and implement a Horizon View solution with Symantec Endpoint protection. I worked my way across the design and implementation by reading various whitepapers both by VMware and Symantec. This prompted me to work on a series of blog articles which covers the Symantec SEP integration with... [Lire la suite]

How Virtualizing Your Desktops Can Help You Protect Sensitive Data

As Ted and Mason mentioned in their video post last week, today’s IT staff faces many challenges involving security, cost, risk, and governance. I’d like to address one particular challenge associated with those: how to manage data. Let’s consider a heavily regulated industry like health care. In a typical healthcare setting, if disaster strikes, hospitals risk losing extremely sensitive patient data, either virtual or physical. In addition to implementing disaster recovery processes and large backup tapes, IT techs... [Lire la suite]
